Space is limited, so please register online or by calling the synagogue office as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a id=\"gadol\"><\/a>Shabbat HaGadol<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">The Shabbat before Passover is called &#8220;Shabbat HaGadol&#8221; (the Big Sabbath), as on that day, community rabbis traditionally give long lectures on preparing for the holiday. Rabbi Botnick won&#8217;t be giving any lengthy talks that day, but he will be addressing any questions you might have &#8211; whether they be about preparing your home for the holiday, making your seder more engaging, or anything else you&#8217;ve been wondering. This year, Shabbat HaGadol falls on Friday, 27 March and Saturday, 28 March. The website <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/passover.isitkosher.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Is It Kosher?<\/a><\/strong><\/span> is another helpful resource if you aren&#8217;t sure something is permissible for Passover.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Step 2 \u2013 Selling Your <em>Hametz<\/em> (Mekhirat Hametz)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">There can be a number of reasons why you wouldn\u2019t want to get rid of all your <em>hametz<\/em> (like expensive whisky).\u00a0 To address this concern, the rabbis developed a ceremony for selling <em>hametz<\/em> for the duration of the holiday to someone who is not Jewish.\u00a0 If you do this, it is important to store any <em>hametz<\/em> you wish to keep in a sealed-off and clearly labeled location where you won\u2019t accidentally see or eat it during Passover.\u00a0 Even if you will be away from your home for the duration of the holiday, you should still sell your <em>hametz<\/em>.\u00a0 This step must be completed<strong> by 20:00 GMT on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">**Use the quick and easy form below to authorise Rabbi Botnick to sell your <em>hametz<\/em> for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Step 3 \u2013 Searching for (Bedikah), Burning (Bi\u2019ur), and Nullifying (Bitul) Your <em>Hametz<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">It is customary to search your house the night before Passover for any remaining traces of <em>hametz<\/em> that you may have missed in your cleaning.\u00a0 Gather anything you find into a paper bag or piece of foil.\u00a0 Then, in the morning, take this remaining <em>hametz<\/em> outside, and burn it before reciting a blessing to nullify any other traces you might have missed.\u00a0 This year, <strong>the search for <em>hametz<\/em> should be conducted on the evening of Tuesday, 31 March 2026 at 20:00 GMT<\/strong>, and the <strong>burning and nullifying of <em>hametz<\/em><\/strong> <strong>must be done BY 11:45 GMT on Wednesday, 1 April 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">**<strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.exploringjudaism.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EJ-Bedikat-Hametz-and-Biur-Hametz.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for easy-to-follow instructions<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>on performing these mitzvot.<\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<p><strong><a id=\"hametz\"><\/a>Mekhirat Hametz &#8211; Selling Your Hametz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">I hereby designate Rabbi Gabriel Botnick as my agent to sell all kinds of <em>hametz<\/em>, including but not limited to any leavened food, as well as dishes, pots, pans, and utensils affected by <em>hametz<\/em>, that may be in my possession &#8211; whether at home, at a place of business, or elsewhere &#8211; in accordance with the requirements of Jewish law.
